Project deliverables
DiDaH described three main deliverables. Together they cover the rescued data, the tool that publishes it and the people trained to keep using it.
| Deliverable | What it contains | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Digitized data | Millions of handwritten and printed observations keyed in and quality controlled, together with the metadata that documents the stations and instruments. | Data description |
| Website on indices of extremes | A regional service presenting indices of weather and climate extremes, so that trends and patterns can be followed across the region. | Data and indices |
| Capacity building | Workshops and the exchange of scientists, transferring data rescue and climatological methods between BMKG and KNMI. | Workshop 2012 |
Digitized data and metadata
The backbone of the project is the digitized record itself. Observations were keyed from hardcopy logbooks and checked for quality, and the accompanying metadata was researched so that every series can be traced to its station. The data description page lists the sources inventoried at KNMI and the estimated effort for each, together with the post 1970 data held at BMKG.
A regional view of extremes
The second deliverable turns the rescued observations into usable climate information. Indices of extremes are published for the Southeast Asian region, feeding the Southeast Asian Climate Assessment and Dataset described on the data and indices page.
Capacity building
The third deliverable is the lasting capability inside BMKG. The December 2009 workshop in Jakarta under WMO auspices started the transfer of knowledge, and the April 2012 international workshop in Citeko, Bogor presented the results. Both are recorded in the news archive and the workshop pages.
